Gourmet sausage rolls

Gourmet Sausage rolls with pork, fennel and vegetables wraped in flaky pastry. Great for parties or a nutritious dinner served with a garden salad.

Ingredients

  • 4 sheets puff pastry thawed
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • sesame seeds for sprinkling on top

Sausage roll filling

  • 500 g good quality pork mince
  • 1 tbs fennel seeds
  • 1 tbs oregano
  • 1 tbs tomato sauce
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 carrot peeled and grated
  • 1 zucchini grated
  • 1 clove garlic crushed
  • 3 spring onions trimmed and thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup worcester sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 200°
    Grease and line 2 trays with baking paper.
  • Place all ingredients for the filling in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper and mix well to combine.
  • Lay your puff pastry on a flat surface and working with one sheet at a time cut the sheet in half horizontally.
    Place 1/8th of the mixture along the long side of the pastry shaping into a long sausage as you go. Brush water along the long edge. 
    Roll the pastry to enclose, finishing seam side down.
  • Place on a tray and brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
    Repeat with remaining pastry.
  • bake for 20min or until pastry is golden and mince is cooked through.
