Apple Crumble

Sweet, warm and delicious this classic apple crumble recipe is going to blow your mind. Caramelised apples with a crunchy, nutty topping. Serve it warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. This classic dessert is always a winner.

Ingredients

For the apple filling

  • 8 Red apples such as red delicious or pink lady
  • cup caster sugar
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice

For the crumble

  • 1 ¼ cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • cup flaked almonds optional
  • 130 g butter if using salted butter then omit the 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 180°
  • Peel and core the apples and cut them into small cubes (approximately 1.5cm) and place at the bottom of a baking dish.
  • Sprinkle apples with sugar, flour and cinnamon and pour over lemon juice. Toss gently to ensure the apples are evenly coated in the mixture. 
  • Place all the topping ingredients in a bowl and mix well with your hands until combined. Spread over the top of the apples.
  • Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  • serve the apple crumble in bowls with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.
